We had planned on a yardsale this weekend.  Since it rained most of the morning, we didn’t open the sale today.  We opened it yesterday and had a nice stream of customers all day. We made about $75……just enough to cover the cost of the tire that had to be replaced a week earlier then planned.

I went out to get dinner last night and one of my bald fronts went flat on me while I was out. K had to call his aunt and uncle to keep the kids and drive him out. That was a bit of a fiasco, but I never got upset at all, and I kept good humor. I was proud of myself for that. We were going to replace the two fronts next week after we got paid, so that sucked that we had to charge it instead. (you can’t just replace one)

Yesterday morning, I went to the Princess/Tea Party yard sale that someone posted to cheapcycle about. Em and I now have matching princess dresses!!  Ha ha…I’m not planning on wearing mine unless we go to a Ren Faire or something, but hers fits her perfect and I hated to split up the set. We’ll probably wear them for halloween. It came with a hoop skirt, and stuff like that’s just good to have on hand for various costumes! There was a lot of tea stuff I wanted too, but I refrained.

Got a bad sunburn yesterday too. First one all year! DH and I thought we were under the umbrella, but since it was overcast and we were busy we weren’t paying that much attention. whoops.

Since we didn’t do sale today, Dh and i went out and picked some corn. We got 27 ears, and 5 or 6 more squash (I already had 7 inside) a handful of strawberries, and a couple tomatoes we are hoping to counter ripen. Ripening on the vine seems not to be working, they are rotting before they ripen.

I spent the afternoon working with K on putting up the corn for freezing. We blanched them, then cut them down into niblets and put them in the sealer bags for vac sealing. I am about to do the same for the squash. I’m all squashed out, tired of eating it.  I also flattened the husks, I think I want to try to dry them. I will either use them myself for crafting or cooking, or I may try to sell them. I need to devise a way to dry them in the sun. It’s not steadily sunny enough lately for that to work around here. Still thinking on that one…

I think that’s all that’s going on here! Off to freeze squash

Summer Vacation July 10, 2008

We have returned from a week’s vacation to Mi. It was a wonderful trip all around. So good to see my family and the weather was perfect. In fact, it was so cool, we didn’t even have enough warm clothes and had to borrow!

Besides spending lots of time with family, we also went to Binder Park Zoo one day…

Zoo Vid (won’t embed, sorry)

and spent nearly a full day at the airport for the air show and balloon fest.

We didn’t see any fireworks, and we didn’t even miss it, we had so much fun doing other things. The boys went with grandpa to shoot off model rockets and had a very lucky fishing outing to a nearby pond. The fish were biting as soon as the hooks hit the water. Each of them caught over 20 fish, and my dad caught a good sized bass as well in the few moments he had between baiting lines and removing fish. Em spent lots of time with her cousin, they were totally cute together.

Mom and I went to the fruit stand and I loaded up on cheap fruit. I brought home 20 lbs of blueberries and spent part of Monday putting those up for winter.

Since we got home, besides trying to get all of the gardens back into shape, I have been picking lots of blackberries! I have picked 2 qts since we got home, and there are plenty more out there to harvest! Woot! Now, what to do..jelly? jam? cobbler? We are also overloaded with yellow squash. Our corn has ears now, so it’s just a matter of time. I am worried about the peas and beans, they just don’t seem to be coming along like they should.

After berry picking today, we played in the rain. Hey, that’s just free fun for anyone! We are lovin all the rain, our garden’s are doing great overall. But it still makes me sleepy when it’s so dreary outside. I’m ready to curl up for a nap.
