Lovely, Fabulous Rain June 26, 2008

Oh Joy!! The rain!!

We spent more then one night walking out to water the corn field by hand in buckets and jugs. I felt like that one episode of Little House where Laura is huge pregnant but can’t let the orchard die so she waters until she drops. Except I”m not pregnant, and dh did most of the walking. :o )

Garden’s are coming right along. DH  cut another bit of ground for a late corn crop.  We have also put in a second round of peas, the first batch didn’t take well. We’ve only so far been able to harvest squash, which is sooo salty good fried up.

We fought through the neck high weeds and brambles to get to some blackberries in the field next door.  It was painful, but worth it. We got about half a quart, freezing now.  Keith’s uncle gave us 3 sugar pumpkins that will have to be cut and puree’d here before we leave if we can.

Leaving Sunday for Mi just after the choir’s patriotic performance.  We’ll be gone all week.

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday. Hug your favorite Vet!

Well, it’s been a couple weeks.

The reunion with MIL went well, but I didn’t practice.  The actual performance did not go well, but it was mostly because of technical difficulties.  I won’t get another chance to sing for probably 6 mos, since I am on vacation the next time I am in the schedule and the director won’t just switch days, he just drops me out unless someone else needs a switch.

We are leaving for MI next week. Everyone is excited, it’s been two years since we’ve been there for a visit. We have a lot of stuff to do this week to get ready, like laundry and packing and planning. Dh is outside, working on the gardens and getting that all ready before we go. Today he is cutting another field for a late corn planting–he wants to get that in and done.

Other then that…not a whole lot to report.

I leave you with this….

How is it that little girls know how to work their cuteness?

If Em knows she’s doing something wrong, and I ask her about it, often she’ll just look up me and smile sweetly, as if that will make me forget what it is that she’s doing.  Newsflash sistah….I been workin that move myself for years and it usually works better with males. And if that doesn’t work, then try tears–a move she practices regularly as well.

Today, after pooping in her pants for THE.MILLIONTH.TIME (Is she EVER going to get it??)  I was being a bit cold with her about it. SHe knows it makes me angry when she does it, she talks about it in context.  So it was all said and done and I had gone back to what I was doing, and she comes up to me and says:

“I have somefing to make you happy.”

“My heart. My heart can make you happy!”

Ok, so that one totally worked.  Mad skilz, that one.

She\'ll give her heart to anyone it seems..

Today June 13, 2008

I haven’t done much today as far as housewifery goes. I suggested that DH take the boys to the movie for a father’s day thing, so I stayed home with Em. We played some preschool games, went outside and played on the treehouse, got the mail, ate lunch, etc.  I just wanted to give her some real quality time. We watched butterflies and picked wildflowers. We’re playing bat the balloon right now, while she watches Between the Lions and I am typing. I took just her swimming in our pool last night. I don’t typically let her get in without me, I don’t trust the boys with her even though it only comes up to her thighs, so she doesn’t get in that often. I feel bad about that for her.

My MIL called to ask us to come to  her family reunion tomorrow. WE don’t know ANY of her relatives, and typically we’d try to beg off, but it’s at a nice park and there is a pool with a lifeguard and food and bluegrass music. Sounds like a fun day, even if they are all strangers. The pool will be  a nice treat for the kids since they didn’t get to do the waterpark thing.  She said that it’s her cousins that are doing the music…I volunteered to do my song from Weds if we can work it out and everyone is open to it. More practice in front of a crowd for me, and bonus, I don’t know any of them so if I mess up, not that big a deal.

THat’s a fun word, don’t you think?

OH, and that previous sentence warrants my telling you that my “K” button is broken and I have to push it extra hard to make it work. So, the previous 4 in the sentence prior may be the last you see. If you see one it will be lie winning the letter lottery.  MMMMwhat shall I call my dh? DH I suppose will have to suffice–no [letters sounding lie c involved]

I got my hair cut today, it was looooong overdue. It seems shorter this time, even though I ased her to mae it longer. Oh well, still cute and it will give me longer before my next trim.  She shaved my nec!!!  It feels funny, how come guys  don’t go round post-trim rubbing the little fuzzies on the bac of their nec??

I made my first batch of yogurt!! It’s nearly done now, and I can start flavoring it in a while. Today I also made freezer strawberry jam.

Em’s doing pretty well with potty training, though we’re still struggling with her BM’s. She ased for a pull up yesterday and made good use of it, so I guess she’s telling us she’s not ready for that last step just yet.

Anyone now anything about fixing laptop eys??

Sky pink streaked with morning,

capping peaks in neon fire.

valley’s still snuggling in blankets of mist

Birds having a fortissimo chorus

Cows bellowing a bass line

Farmers awakening their tractors

Bugs waking up in webs

Honeysuckle heavily scenting the air

The only chill of the day.

Spring flung! June 1, 2008

Filed under: general nothingness — pollyannapickle @ 3:18 pm

Here are some pictures of what projects have been done this spring (all by my talented and clever husband) and a few other pictures too.

This is the rain barrel water catchment system. The three barrels are plumbed together, with one attached to the gutters on the house. There is a spigot for a hose hookup, and an overflow (which is needed! These things fill up fast!!) It is gravity fed since dh built the wooden stand for it. We are able to get the water out to the corn field, but not to the veg. garden since the veg garden is at higher elevation.

Veg garden. You can only see the potatoes in this picture, but we also have carrots, snow peas and squash and watermelon. We plan to put in a different variety of peas in a few days.

Corn. You can see one row really well, but it’s all coming along nicely. We should have a nice crop of it.

The treehouse, always a work in progress. We have been saving up for a slide, and then I found this one at a yard sale for $7!!! The other new addition is a climbing wall on the other side. The next set of plans include a second floor and a zip line.

Not a project, but cool eh? Not even a “Michigan Strawberry” this one was grown in Irwin TN. Neat for me to find, and it would be a nice logo picture for a Michigan strawberry farm.

Just some weeds…..
